February: Thoughts from Huw

Dear Friends

This month Lent begins and we think of Jesus being led into the wilderness. He was tempted there to go away from the work God wanted him to do.  He was tempted by the attraction of power, wealth and popularity. This was the time he spent strengthening himself for his future work: for his preaching, healing, concern for people- work which would lead him to death on the cross. He needed this time to deepen the choices he had already made. He was led into the desert by the Spirit; God wanted him there.

We might think of the times we have felt we were in the wilderness; when we felt life was very rough, when we were in conflict with family, when we were lonely, when we feared failure. Jesus says of himself that he comes looking for us when we feel like that. We ask God for help to keep doing what we know is right, especially when our good intentions may waver.

I am hoping to organise some Bible studies during Lent and will keep you informed of when and where they will take place.

Following the retirement of our organist Marion Lees, it was a great pleasure for me  to go and visit her at home with a letter and a cheque from the church, thanking her for her wonderful musical ministry at Wesley.  Marion served us faithfully as organist/pianist for many years . We will miss her friendship and musical talents but hope she will pop in to see us when she is able. Most of all we wish her God’s blessing in the future.

With good wishes and prayers

God Bless
