Dec: Thoughts from Huw
Luke Ch 1 v46-56
Dear Friends,
As Methodist Christians, we are well known for our love of singing. It has often be said that as Methodists we sing our prayers. Over the next few weeks we will be singing our Christmas carols as we greet our Lord`s coming to be with us.
One song that both fascinates and moves me is the one which Mary, the mother of Jesus sings when she finds she is going to be the mother of a very special baby.
Mary, well acquainted with songs of the Old Testament, bursts out singing because suddenly the words have changed from abstract theories to realities. She has discovered that;
- God is merciful- perhaps this sprang from the fact that her cousin Elizabeth believed her story and did not turn her back on a pregnant, but unmarried relative.
- God has special concern for the humble and poor- he had bypassed the aristocracy and chosen her.
- God keeps his promises- no matter what past unfaithfulness has marked a person`s life. God remains loyal year after year.
May the experience of a teenage girl who bubbled up with joy at the realization that God was at work – personally, globally, eternally- allow you to greet the Christ child with an excitement that you had forgotten was possible.
Find some quiet space in the midst of your business, sneak away from the, `must does and must buys`, light a candle and share a few moments with Jesus. There is no need for words; not even a song, just make the moment count, be thankful that there is a glorious meaning to Christmas that you have discovered deep in the secret place of your heart.
Hilary, Lucy, Harrison and Elle join with me in wishing you a very happy Christmas and peaceful 2020.
With good wishes
Huw
