March: Thoughts from Huw

Dear Friends

One of my favourite stories from the New Testament is Jesus and the Samaritan woman in John’s gospel chapter four. It is all about showing love and compassion to others which is at the heart of the Christian faith. Jesus says in the gospel that what he wants to give us is ‘living water’, a fountain or well spring of life inside us, which is love.

Water is something we connect with life and growth: we are surrounded by the protection of water in the womb and we need it to grow. It is something we connect with cleansing and with baptism. We are forgiven in the waters which cleanse us and called to follow Jesus in the water of baptism. On that note I want to say that I am writing to families who have come to Wesley for baptisms in recent years and will be inviting them to worship with us on Mothering Sunday 22nd March.

Themes of forgiveness, cleansing, renewal, refreshment and growth are things to consider as we travel through Lent. May I take this opportunity of reminding you of our Cluster Lent course starting on Tuesday 3rd March at 2pm @ Sheriff Hill Methodist Church.

Looking forward to seeing you.

With all good wishes

Huw
