Words from Bede Circuit

Dear friends

This last week I had a memory come up on my Facebook account which said – Moving to Bede. I cannot believe I’ve been here a year but what a year it has been. Five/six months of it in lockdown. I’m still trying to understand some of the local phrases and accents, and getting used to the common words such as `canny’, `whyaye’.

Obviously how we communicate to each other is important. Zoom for me has become a daily tool for doing this. Telephone, emails, letters are also important, as is a face to face conversation. The latter is what we all miss.

Last week I was able to see my two sons face to face since lockdown and it was wonderful. My news is that in February I am going to be a Grannie. I’m so excited.

I share with you a document from the Methodist website site which helps us to consider what our calling is, and what it means daily to follow Christ.

A Methodist Way of Life

The calling of the Methodist Church is to respond to the gospel of God’s love in Christ and to live out its discipleship in worship and mission.

As far as we are able, with God’s help:

Worship

  • We will pray daily.

  • We will worship with others regularly.

  • We will look and listen for God in Scripture, and the world.

Learning and Caring

  • We will care for ourselves and those around us.

  • We will learn more about our faith.

  • We will practise hospitality and generosity.

Service

  • We will help people in our communities and beyond.

  • We will care for creation and all God’s gifts.

  • We will challenge injustice.

Evangelism

  • We will speak of the love of God.

  • We will live in a way that draws others to Jesus.

  • We will share our faith with others.

May we be a blessing within and beyond God’s Church, for the transformation of the world.

At this time we are trying to arrange for each church council to meet to discuss any plans for the future regarding reopening buildings. This of course needs to be done correctly with all the cleaning and distancing we need to do. It is essential we put the safety of ourselves and others as a priority in all of this. But a question we need to be asking is how do we do worship, how do we learn and care, how do we serve, how do we evangelise?

Zoom Bible studies are taking a short break this week but Sunday worship at 10.30am and Wednesday Morning prayer at 10am will continue on Zoom. There are other services on Why Pay Telephone Conference Please contact the Senior Church Steward (Brenda Wallace) for more details: wesleymemchurch.pr@gmail.com and please do use the Sunday service sheet as we continue (for now) to worship at home.

Please continue to look after and pray for each other.

Every blessing

Revd Jane Carter, on behalf of the Bede Circuit staff team.
