May: Thoughts from Huw
Dear Friends,
Hope you are keeping well and safe.
We are now in the season of Easter and I was heartened by this story I came across this year describing an Easter ceremony in Russia under communism when it was dangerous to be a believer:
‘Someone at the back of the church lit a candle,
a single point of light not able to pierce the darkness.
Then there was another, and another.
Swiftly the flame was passed from one to another.
In less than a minute the church was a blaze of light.
Each candle lit up the face behind it,
a face marked with suffering.
But now that suffering turned into joy,
Because of the certain knowledge that the Lord has risen.
These people do not debate the resurrection.
They have experienced it in their lives.
They have not persevered the faith in hostile surroundings;
It has preserved them.’
During Eastertide, may the light of Easter shine into our lives and chase the shadows of the night of death away.
At Wesley , our first service in church after many months will be on Sunday 23rd May at 10.30am. I look forward to seeing you and with Covid restrictions still in place, please give your name to Mrs Brenda Wallace so we know you are attending.
With thanks and good wishes,
God Bless
