Words from Bede Circuit
Dear Friends
A fortnight ago, when Jane led worship on vocations Sunday, we sang the words to the Bernadette Farrell Hymn, in the Lord I’ll be ever thankful:
In the Lord I’ll be ever thankful, in the Lord I will rejoice, look to God, do not be afraid, lift up your voices the lord is near.
As I sit here writing this letter, I am hearing the distant sounds of the bin lorry coming up the close where the manse is situated.
Today is blue bin day, which means the recycling is taken away. Thankfully, today is a good day, as I know we have put out the right coloured bin (which in our house is not always the case!). Sometimes we even forget to put out the bin.
I wonder, how is bin day in your house, especially if you live with someone else?
According to a recent survey, bin day is one of the most stressful days in the week for a household in modern day Britain. It is right up there with moving to a new house.
Frequent arguments include whose turn it is to take out the bin, whether sorting the recycling has occurred properly, the individuals dress code when taking out or bringing back the bin, and whether the bin has been correctly positioned at its collection point!
Some may say that the details of bin day are just the minutiae of life and are not important. Whilst clearly for others, it is part of their DNA to make sure that all the rubbish has been sorted correctly, and to make sure that the bin is positioned within a millimetre of its life.
Thankfully, with God, we are in safe hands as God already knows the minutiae of our lives, God knows us better than we know ourselves.
Whether we mix things up, get things wrong, put ourselves in the wrong places, there is always a way back to God. God will never leave us or forsake us.
Love, grace, and forgiveness are lavishly offered to each of us by God to us in our lives, even if we personally feel like an unloved, discarded wheelie bin. God wants to take this feeling from us, sort out the rubbish, and fill us with the Good things of God. Are we prepared to lift the lid on our lives and let God in to transform us?
May we be ever thankful for the love, grace, forgiveness, and peace which God offers us in our lives.
