Words from Bede Circuit
Dear Friends
Over the pandemic we have come to use Zoom for many meetings, services, training events, funeral visits, family chats (I am also aware that some of you haven’t had this facility but please read on).
One of the positives of using this facility is that it has enabled the users to see each other. It has helped us get to know others across the circuit.
One of the negatives for me is that you get to see yourself. It’s like looking in a mirror. You see the wrinkles, you notice more the bad hair day.
Sometimes we become uncomfortable looking at ourselves. I do hope though that this isn’t every time and that we remind ourselves we are beautiful. Have a go and tell yourself you are beautiful.
I raise this as we approach the time of Lent when we are given this time to not just look at our outward appearance but to look inside in our hearts. To look at where we need to change, so that we can reflect more of God. To look at who, where we are being called to serve? To pay attention to our walk with God.
How will you mark this time of Lent? It’s not just about giving things up like chocolate. It is more about an inward journey and discipline.
One year I remember taking up the challenge of praying the Lord’s Prayer every day at 12 noon. I set my alarm on my phone and wherever I was I would stop and pray. At first I would say the words at normal speed, but I noticed as the days went by I said the words slowly and the words began to take on a different meaning. I became aware of the familiar words in a deeper way. It is something I am going to do this year and I invite you to join in.
Going back to Zoom I am planning a Lent Course to be held on Thursday evenings from March 10th for 5 weeks looking at prayer.
We are also planning a circuit Zoom service the Wednesday of Holy week at 7pm More details to come.
May this time of Lent be a blessing as we journey closer to God and with Jesus to the walk to Jerusalem.
Blessings
Jane
