Words from Bede Circuit
Dear Friends,
On everyone’s mind, at present, are the horrors unfolding in Ukraine. Like so many people I confess to being very ignorant about the country and it is only recently that I have come to appreciate the fine architecture of so many of the buildings prior to the wreckage that we see beamed on our television screens each day. Nor can we overlook the tremendous fortitude shown by the population and the determination of President Zelensky and all who are prepared to risk their lives in the battle for the freedom of the Ukranians.
I am currently reading the Archbishop of Canterbury’s Lent Book and on the cover Justin Welby states “In a world where justice is too often about power, the author Isabelle Hamley, shows that God’s justice brings transformation, healing and hope for us all”. In a situation where most of us feel utterly helpless we must surely pray for that transformation and healing for all the people of Ukraine and for the many in Russia who are equally horrified by the events as they unfold. God offers that same invitation to us all today, whether as churches, communities or individuals, as we too live in a broken and hurting world. Hope underpins those aspirations, hope is our kitemark.
As we journey through Lent I pray that each one of us may experience anew what Christ is seeking to impart to each one of us. Within our own circuit there is a lot going on and at Circuit Meeting tomorrow a number of decisions will be taken about the shape of the circuit in the future, but we move forward with God. The past two years have been very difficult and everyone is wondering what the new norm will be but we go with God and seek to determine his plans for the ongoing work of the circuit.
