Words from Bede Circuit
Dear Friends
It is hard to believe that this year will be my third Easter with you in the Bede Circuit and yet due to Covid haven’t held services in a church building. So this year will have a significant feel to it all.
On Sunday we will of course remember the events of Palm Sunday, as Jesus rode into Jerusalem on a donkey. A procession formed and the crowds shouted, `Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord.’
The only crowd I have been part of when waiting to witness a royal procession was in Leicester when the remains of King Richard were paraded around Leicestershire and brought through the city to the Cathedral where I had an invitation to attend. It was a strange situation. Flowers were thrown before the carriage. But the crowd didn’t know whether to cheer or to be quiet. Such a different experience of a royal procession.
But here Jesus is entering the city and here too it would have been a strange situation as it wasn’t the usual way a king would enter the city. A donkey? A sign of peace. I was thinking this week how it would feel to see Jesus riding a donkey in the streets of the Ukraine. What would be the people’s response?
We as the followers of Jesus walk with him into Jerusalem and the events of Holy week will unfold before us. Where do we place ourselves in the events? Do we run and hide or we stay with Jesus?
During Holy week there will be services in your church and on Wednesday 13th April at 7.00pm we will have a circuit service on Zoom. Details can be obtained from the Minister/Steward.
As we journey me we come close to the one who gave his life for us….
With love
Jane Carter, Superintendent Minister
