Words from Bede Circuit
Dear Friends
John 14: 23-29 – The gift of peace
During the Last Supper Jesus said to the apostles, ‘Peace I leave with you, my own peace I give you. A peace which the world cannot give, this is my gift to you. So, do not let your hearts be troubled or afraid.’ Lovely words from the Gospel to comfort and reassure us.
We are nearing the end of the Great Fifty Days. During this time the Church celebrates the risen Jesus, his post resurrection appearances and teachings. On Thursday this week we will be celebrating Ascension Day.
Let us thank God that Jesus goes on offering his peace to us as he ascends into Heaven because he is in perfect communion with God, he can give us the gift of peace and it can also be our gift to one another.
So as we approach Ascension Day and beyond may we be at peace with God, at peace with ourselves and at peace with others.
Reflection
To be glad of life, because it gives you a chance to love, to work, to play and to look up at the stars. To despise nothing in the world except what is false and mean. To fear nothing except what is cowardly. To be guided by what you admire and love, rather than by what you hate. To envy nothing that is your neighbour’s except his/her kindness of heart and gentleness of manner. To think seldom of your enemies, often of your friends, and every day of Christ. And to spend as much time as you can, with body and with spirit, in God’s out-of -doors. These are signposts on the footpath of peace.
