September: Thoughts from Huw
Dear Friends,
I was told recently by someone that `the Methodist Church is dying and on its last legs’. That statement did make me think particularly about our worshipping numbers on a Sunday morning. Yes, numbers have decreased at Wesley and indeed in all our churches in this Circuit. But, of course, the strength of the Church is not only measured in numbers, but by a deeper level of commitment, in terms of joyful enthusiasm for the gospel of Christ and a recognition of the constant privilege of knowing we are all unique and loved by God.
It is important to remind ourselves that the sincerity of our church going is tested by our life and witness in the world. So, if asked how strong is Wesley Memorial Methodist Church or indeed the churches in the Bede Circuit, the only honest answer comes down to you and me … how strong is our allegiance, our loyalty and commitment to God and each other? In other words, how much does Christ and the Church mean to us?
Always, St. Paul `hits the nail on the head` when he says `we are all members together in the body of Christ` (Ephesians Ch4 v25)
I would like to take this opportunity of inviting you to our Autumn Coffee Morning and Gift Day on Saturday 21st September from 10am – 12 Noon. Please bring family and friends.
Let us keep up the good work that we are doing, support each other, look out for the lost sheep and keep our eyes on Christ as we begin the New Methodist year.
God Bless
