Sept: Thoughts from Huw
Dear Friends,
My first words to you all must be ‘a Happy New Year’ as a new Methodist year begins. This lovely and unique greeting in the life of Methodism is sadly dying away like many other things in our tradition that we love and cherish.
It is incredible to think that this is my sixth year as a Methodist Minister in the Bede Circuit. Where does the time go? It will Christmas again before we know it! No doubt we will sing ‘The hopes and fears of all the years are met in thee tonight’. That is the central plank of our Christian faith. It is with that assurance of faith that we can face the future, with all its possibilities, all its expectations and all its unknowns.
In September we can turn the page because a new year has dawned in the life of Methodism. There will be challenges for all of us as we pass from the old to the new. May it be that we pass from an age of uncertainty into a new era of faith. Can we at Wesley accept the challenges of a new church year. Are we willing to heed the promptings of the Holy Spirit who wants to lead us forward.
Let us look forward in faith, God who loves and has called us is faithful. We and God’s Church are in God’s hands. So,
May the hymn ‘When we walk with the Lord’ be our prayer;
‘Trust and obey, for there’s no other way
To be happy in Jesus,
But to trust and obey’
With good wishes
Huw
