Dear Friends,

Hope you are keeping well.

Ascension Day is when we celebrate Jesus going to be with his Father. Jesus honoured his apostles (and now honours us) by entrusting them with the task of carrying out his mission. The task was first of all one of preaching. They were to tell the Good News to all those who had never heard it. We thank God for the preachers and worship leaders at Wesley and in our Circuit who faithfully fill our pulpit on Sunday mornings to ensure the Gospel can be heard.

The second task of the apostles was healing. Christianity is concerned not just with the soul but also with the body. Jesus wished his followers to bring health of mind and body to people.

The only assurance he gave them was that he would be with them always. ” I will be with you always; yes to the end of time.” (Matthew 28 v16-20) However, that assurance would give them the courage and strength to face whatever difficulties lay ahead. These are some of the most reassuring words Jesus ever speaks and can give us hope and courage in times of worry, anxiety and crisis.

A sense of the presence of Jesus with us, doesn’t change the world for us, but it can give us courage to face it. God`s loving closeness protects us against a sense of abandonment and despair.

Jesus depends on us to be his witnesses before the world. It’s a daunting task but a great privilege too. The most effective way to witness to Jesus is by living a Christian life.
