March: Thoughts from Huw

Dear Friends

‘Repent and believe the Gospel’

With it being an early Easter this year, I am writing this letter to you for the March edition of Wesley News on the eve of the first Sunday in Lent. We recall in Mark’s Gospel how Jesus spent time in the desert, after being baptised. We learn that he goes on to Galilee and calls on the people to repent and believe in the gospel.

Sometimes it feels as if Lent could be a season of ‘doom and gloom’, but it is also a blessing. It gives us time to reflect and it is a greater opportunity to commit to change, to take a new direction in our lives, to make a fresh start. As Sr Laurentia Johns OSB writes, ‘From wherever we may have wandered through neglect, poor choices, stress, busyness, God never tires of calling us back’.

This year a Lenten study will take place at Sheriff Hill Methodist Church starting on Tuesday 27 February at 2pm. Please come along if you are able and bring a friend remembering that God never tires of calling us back. We can make a fresh start.

Following our recent meeting to look at the Quinquennial Inspection Report at Wesley and after the Property Group has met on Tuesday 7 May, a further Church Council will take place on Tuesday 14 May at 7pm. You are all very welcome to attend to share your thoughts and ideas.

With good wishes and prayers for a Happy Easter.

God Bless
Huw
